UpgradeMr Richard Slater qualified at Nottingham Medical School in 1993 and obtained the FRCS in 1998. He trained in the Leeds, Nottingham and Sheffield and spent 2 years in research on colorectal cancer metastases, which led to an MD thesis in 2006. In 2006 Mr Slater obtained his CCT, and spent 6 months as a Clinical Fellow in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery at St Marks Hospital.
In 2006 he was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon with a special interest in colorectal surgery to Rotherham General Hospital, South Yorkshire. Since then, he has developed his clinical interests, which have included laparoscopic and minimal invasive surgery techniques, in the fields of general surgery and coloproctology.
Mr Slater also has an interest in developing Peri-Operative Care techniques and have successfully introduced an Enhanced Recovery Programme into Rotherham Hospital. During the last few years he has been heavily involved in providing surgical training, particularly in laparoscopic colorectal surgery and was an active trainer in the Laparoscopic Colorectal Preceptorship Programme, providing training to established Consultants.
