UpgradeMr Goru finished medical school at Andhra Medical College in 1999 and he did his post-graduation in Orthopaedics DNB (Ortho) in Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, India. He developed a special interest in the spine since then. He moved to the UK in 2006 and did his basic surgical rotation in Essex. Mr Goru did his higher surgical training in Trauma & Orthopaedics in Essex and Northwest. He developed his surgical skills as a spinal surgeon at the registrar level following which he completed his FRCS (Tr & Orth.) examination. He then undertook his First Paediatric spinal fellowship at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London. He undertook his Second Spinal fellowship at the AO Spine Reference Centre at University Hospital Wales in Cardiff. The training in Cardiff was under orthopaedic spinal surgeons and neurosurgeons. He gained experience in all aspects of spinal surgery including deformity. This included techniques of microdiscectomy and micro decompression in the lumbar spine, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion and posterior neck surgery, anterior approaches to the thoracolumbar spine, scoliosis, lumbosacral injection techniques, minimally invasive spinal surgery like image-guided pedicle screws and XLIF.
Mr Goru joined as a Locum spine consultant at Warrington Hospital from 2013 to 2016. He has done his sub-specialty rotations in Manchester Royal Infirmary, Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, and Salford Royal Hospital Spinal Unit. Following his CESR in Oct 2022 he has done a refresh Spinal fellowship in the world-renowned Oswestry Spinal unit.
Mr Goru was then appointed as an NHS Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, Wolverhampton in 2023. He is actively involved in developing and expanding and hopes to make The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital a Spine referral centre for the Black Country. The majority of his practice is in treating degenerative spinal conditions from the cervical spine to the coccyx. He has a special interest in cervical spine surgery. He is academically oriented and interested in training. In addition, he has extensively published more than 15 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented my research at numerous National and International conferences. He is a Member of various organizations like the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), British Association of Spine Surgeons (BASS), National Spine Network (NSN), British Medical Association (BMA), British Indian Orthopaedic Society (BIOS) and Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Outside his academic interests, he is an outdoor enthusiast and he enjoys playing badminton and cricket.
