UpgradeNaren Garneti is a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon at Rotherham General Hospital with a special interest in Hip and Knee surgery. His sub-specialist interests include primary and revision Hip and Knee Replacements, knee arthroscopy and management of peri-prosthetic fractures. He was the lead for Metal on Metal Hip replacements and Clinical Effectiveness at Rotherham General Hospital
Naren trained at Leeds on the Yorkshire Higher Surgical training programme. He underwent sub-specialty double- Fellowship training in advanced primary and revision Hip and Knee arthroplasty in New Zealand and Bristol. His Fellowship at Bristol was supervised by Professor Gordon Bannister (past President of the British Hip Society), Professor Ian D Learmonth (past President of the European Hip Society), Professor Ashley Blom and Mr. Jason Webb. His Fellowship in New Zealand was under the direction of Professor Jean- Claude Theis (past President of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons), Mr. John Matheson (past President of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association) and Mr. David Gwynne-Jones. He visited several centers of excellence in the United States of America, Belfast (Mr. David Beverland) and Birmingham (Mr. Derek McMinn) to enhance his knowledge of Hip and Knee Replacement surgery. He is a member of the British Hip Society (BHS), British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) and the British Medical Association (BMA).
Naren is active in research and has presented at International, National and Regional meetings. He has several publications to his credit. Education is an important part of his curriculum. He is engaged in teaching and training the Registrars and Middle Grades at Rotherham General Hospital. He set up and co-ordinates the Fellowship program in Lower Limb arthroplasty at Rotherham General Hospital.
In addition to being a faculty member on local courses, Naren is the founder and convener of the South Yorkshire Orthopedic Courses (SYOC). He started organizing the South Yorkshire Upper Limb Fracture Fixation courses for surgeons and nurses at Rotherham General Hospital. He went on to organize the South Yorkshire Fracture Neck of Femur course, South Yorkshire Instructional Hip Course, South Yorkshire Instructional Knee Course, South Yorkshire Instructional Trauma course and South Yorkshire Basic Sciences course for FRCS (Tr & Orth).
Naren Garneti set up the Day Surgery and 24-hour-stay Arthroplasty service pathway at Rotherham General Hospital. This service has been quite successful with several patients undergoing their joint replacements as day cases and a few with 24-hour in-patient stay. This service is now offered by Naren Garneti at Thornbury Hospital.
