Muhammad Asif

Specialty:
Orthopaedics

Since 2018, Mr Asif has served as a consultant orthopaedic and trauma surgeon at the University Hospitals of Leicester, specializing in hip and knee surgery as well as the treatment of fractures in both adults and children. His focus extends to addressing adult knee issues such as arthritis, where he's employed non-operative treatments, administered injections, and conducted various forms of knee replacement surgery, ranging from partial knee replacement to primary and revision knee procedures. Additionally, Mr Asif has undertaken knee-preserving surgeries for arthritis, such as High Tibial Osteotomy. His expertise also encompasses the evaluation, non-operative treatment, injections, and replacement procedures for hip arthritis.

Actively engaged in research, Mr Asif has contributed to several projects centred around hips, knees, feet, and ankles. My publications include papers on tibial fractures, hip fractures, and the treatment of arthritis in the big toe. Beyond his clinical work, he has played a significant role in the training of orthopaedic registrars at both junior and senior levels, particularly as a mentor for senior knee arthroplasty fellows at Leicester.

Mr Asif's journey in medicine began at Allama Iqbal Medical College in Pakistan, where he earned his MBBS in 1997. After a brief stint in various medical disciplines, including medicine, surgery, cardiology, and primary health, he decided to pursue orthopaedics in August 1999, obtaining fellowship-I recognition from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. Since February 2003, all his professional roles in the UK have been within the field of orthopaedics.

Throughout his career, Mr Asif has undergone diverse training experiences across the UK, attaining MRCS Surgery and Allied in 2005 (Member Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh) and FRCS Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2015 (Fellow College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow). His two-year fellowship training at the senior arthroplasty fellow level included 18 months at the University Hospitals of Leicester (with a focus on knees, Hip replacements, and soft tissue) and six months at York (involving knee replacements and soft tissue knee procedures).

As a consultant, Mr Asif takes pride in having performed over 500 joint replacements listed on the National Joint Register, with minimal complications, limited to only two revisions.
