Mohamed El Sharif

Mr El Sharif completed his higher surgical training as part of the Yorkshire and Humber surgical training program. During this period, he worked and trained under excellent mentors and experts in numerous hospitals in the region, including Sheffield University Teaching Hospitals, Hull University Teaching Hospitals, Leeds University Teaching Hospitals, Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, Scunthorpe, and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons after completing his exams in 2021. Shortly after finishing his surgical training in October 2022, he was appointed as a Consultant General & Upper GI Surgeon at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in January 2023.

He conducted research at St. James Teaching Hospitals in Leeds, focusing on the use of functional Gadoxetate MRI to measure future liver remnant function after liver resectional surgery for cancer removal. This technique has the potential to predict post-hepatectomy liver failure. He has several peer-reviewed publications in high-impact scientific journals and has presented his work at numerous international and national meetings.

Mr. El Sharif is passionate about teaching and training. He has been actively involved as a regular faculty member in various surgical courses and workshops. Additionally, he serves as the undergraduate medical student lead for the surgical department in his trust. He also acts as an examiner for final-year medical students’ OSCE exams and holds a postgraduate degree in medical education from the University of Sheffield.
