Holly Morris

Specialty:
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon / Hand & Wrist

Ms Holly Morris is a Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon based in the Pulvertaft Hand Centre.  She has a special interest in the management of paediatric and congenital hand differences. Holly graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Leicester in 2008.  She undertook basic surgical training in New Zealand before returning home, to the East Midlands, where she trained in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery.

Holly worked in the internationally renowned Pulvertaft Hand Centre during her surgical training and, again, as a fellow.  Under the mentorship of Ms Karen Smith, she completed the hand and microsurgical fellowship in Auckland Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Unit. She was awarded both the BSSH Stack Travelling Fellowship and Newton Travelling Fellowship to develop her interest in the management of the paediatric hand.  With these fellowships, Holly visited centres in the USA, Australia and India.

Following a short-term consultant post in Auckland, Holly returned home to the East Midlands where she was appointed to a substantive consultant NHS post in the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in 2025. Here, she offers a comprehensive hand surgery service to both adult and paediatric patients.

Conditions Holly treats include:

• Carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome

• Trigger digits

• Dupytren's disease

• Arthritis of the wrist base of thumb and other small joints of the hand

• Wrist fractures

• Scaphoid fractures and their complications

• Small bone fractures

Holly has been involved for some years with research within her fields and is widely published.  Her PhD focused on the role of sustainable textiles within the healthcare setting and the waste created by disposable surgical gowns and drapes.  Work from this was submitted to the Covid-19 Inquiry.

Holly is a member of the circular healthcare working group of the European Division of Health Care Without Harm. Nationally, she has advised the Royal College of Surgeons Sustainability group, contributing guidance on textile use in surgery for the Green Surgery Report. Holly has spoken internationally on both surgical and textiles matters relevant to her expertise and is a member of the International Council of the Textile Institute.  She supervises PhD and Masters students and works with start-ups within the healthcare textile field.

Outside of work, Holly enjoys leading an active lifestyle in the Peak District, making jewellery and working with textiles.
